Peyronie’s Disease Treatment: What Options Do I Have Available?

What Is Peyronie’s Disease?

Peyronie’s Disease is a complex type of ED (erectile dysfunction).

It occurs when segments of flat scar tissue (plaques) form under the skin of the penis. These plaque deposits cause penile curvature which often results in painful erections and difficulty maintaining an erection.

Whereas when most men become sexually aroused blood flows to the penis causing it to become erect, those with Peyronie’s Disease have a difficult time getting or sustaining an erection because the scar tissue doesn’t stretch. This causes the penis to become bent or disfigured during erection.

While the onset of Peyronie’s Disease starts with penile curvature that gradually worsens, there comes a point where the condition usually stabilizes and the curvature stops worsening.

The pain associated with erections generally lessens as well after a year or two but the damaged tissue and penile curvature generally remain.

Signs That You Have Peyronie’s Disease

Briefly touched on above, the first symptom that you will notice that you are developing Peyronie’s Disease is probably going to be the formation of plaque or flat scar tissue on the penis.

Plaque more often than not forms on the upper side of the penis (though it can also form on the underside) and can usually be felt through the skin of the penis.

In rare cases, the plaque builds up all the way around the penis causing what is known as a “bottleneck” deformity.

Plaque build-up can cause a number of medical issues including a calcium buildup that causes the plaque to become hard — almost bone-like.

Here is a non-extensive list of other symptoms of Peyronie’s Disease:

  • Penile curvature

  • Lumps in the penis

  • Soft erections

  • Painful erections

  • Difficulty sustaining an erection

Causes Of Peyronie’s Disease

There is much speculation about the cause of Peyronie’s Disease.

Although it isn’t known for sure what causes Peyronie’s Disease, here are a few of the common known causes of the condition.

  • Age: most men that suffer from penile curvature due to Peyronie’s Disease are between the ages of 40 and 75.

  • Injury: this seems to be the most likely cause of Peyronie’s Disease as many men suffering from the condition have suffered from mild or severe penile trauma. Penile trauma often results from a sex injury or a sports-related injury or other accident. These accidents or injuries damage the tunica albuginea and result in the formation of scar tissue. Peyronie’s Disease is simply the body’s way of responding to the injury and attempt at healing.

  • Genetics: genetics appear to have a hand in the onset of Peyronie’s Disease even though more research is needed in this particular area.

  • Pre-existing health conditions: certain health conditions place you at a greater risk of developing Peyronie’s Disease. Things like high blood pressure, penile or pelvic trauma or Tobacco usage may put you at a greater likelihood of developing the disease.

In a small percentage of cases, men develop Peyronie’s Disease gradually and without ever having sustained any injury to the penis.

How Common Is Peyronie’s Disease?

Peyronie’s Disease, while quite rare in young men, still has a fair number of cases of men in their thirties. It becomes more common for men between the ages of forty and seventy, with an estimation of about six cases per one hundred men. It’s helpful to note that the number of cases could be higher as a result of underreporting due to embarrassment.

How To Get Rid Of Peyronie's Disease

Very rarely does Peyronie’s Disease remedy itself on its own. Finding a treatment option for Peyronie’s that works for you can be a difficult and daunting task. When it comes to getting rid of Peyronie’s disease and how to straighten a penile curvature, you basically have two options, surgical or non-surgical treatments.

Here is some information on both the surgical and non-surgical remedies including several new treatment options for Peyronie’s Disease.

Surgical Treatment Options For Peyronie’s Disease

  1. Penile implants

  2. Shortening the unaffected side

  3. Lengthening the scar tissue side

All surgical treatments come with their share of risks and can take significant amounts of time to recover from. They also pose the risk of the patient suffering from ED in the future. These procedures usually remove the excess tissue in order to straighten the curved penis.

Non-Surgical Treatment Options For Peyronie’s Disease

Non-surgical treatments for Peyronie’s Disease take on many different forms and are generally more desirable for patients suffering from penile curvatures. Non-surgical treatment options for Peyronie’s Disease include the following:

  1. Oral medication

  2. Penile injections

  3. Specific exercise plans

  4. GAINSWave treatments

About GAINSWave

GAINSWave is a revolutionary technology that has recently come to the USA from Europe and is being used to stimulate regeneration in the penis.

GAINSWave is a non-invasive, pain-free, and FDA approved treatment for Peyronie’s Disease. Although it is a new treatment for Peyronie’s Disease patients in the US, it has a proven track record of favorable results.

How GAINSWave Works

GAINSWave uses low-intensity sound waves to stimulate the growth of new blood vessels in the penis. This procedure is also used to break up the plaque which can cause Peyronie’s Disease.

By destroying plaque and stimulating new blood vessels, GAINSWave is helping men all across America achieve stronger, harder, and longer erections.

Typical treatments involve coming into the clinic for short 15-minute sessions twice a week for six weeks.
